The walk-in performance installation 404 – NOT FOUND consists of a labyrinth of eleven rooms, which audience members can explore individually along two different pathways.

Created during the second COVID-19 lockdown, the piece both engaged with and artistically expanded on the distancing regulations of the time, while reflecting on the increasing transfer of the self into the digital sphere. Theatre – as an inherently encounter-based, analogue form – was deliberately set in contrast to a simulated world of fluid beings and anonymity.

As part of a surreal narrative, the lower path takes visitors on an analog journey into the Internet. Traversing a digital landscape, the audience encounters projected beings that speak of the contradictory potentials of virtual worlds.

The upper path deals with transhumanist narratives of possibility: an audio walk guides visitors in seven steps from physical existence to the upload of the self into a cloud. Performers appear here in vitrines, connected via livestream to the audience traveling the lower path.
